OK so how many stores do you shop in that have been in business for over 70 years?  Thats what I thought. Crown Pawnbrokers has been operating in Washington DC in the same location since 1939.  Our storefront has changed a bit and the City has changed dramatically throughout the years.  In 1939 Crown started as a Taylor and alterations shop.  Slowly throughout the years My Great Grandfather Morris realized the need for so many people to borrow money.  During the 40's through the 70's everybody owned 1 really nice suit and only needed it for special occasions such as weddings and funerals.   Crown made it possible for many people to purchase previously used clothing and shoes to people who could not afford new ones because of the hard economy.   During the years loans grew from simply suits to shoes to watches jewelry and more.  Above left store front aprox late 1960's;above right Mr. Crown early 1950's; Below left Morris 1930's; below right inside store late 1960's.

Trying to pick the oddest/coolest/wierdest item for sale in the store is a tough task considering we have a bit of everything for sale. 

TBD.com's neighborhood BLOG wanted to know what was the most interesting item for sale we had.  That day we chose the Sitar sitting above the front door.  It has taken up residence and gets a lot of looks from shoppers but hasn't found a home yet. Through Clean Currents we were able to offset or energy usage with wind power to reduce our carbon footprint.  Every year 19.1 tons of Carbon Dioxide will be offset which is equivalent to taking 3.6 passengers vehicles off the road for an entire year or recycling 6.4 tons of waste.
