Four Generations. One Washington Neighborhood.

Crown Pawnbrokers has been part of Washington's 14th Street neighborhood since 1936. What began as Morris's men's furnishing business evolved across four generations into the pawnbroker Crown is today built on personal service, fair dealing, discretion and expertise.

Where Crown Began

Morris founded Crown Men’s Furnishing on 14th Street in 1936. What began as a neighborhood clothing business gradually evolved as Morris began buying and reselling merchandise and making small loans against items of value.

That practical way of helping neighbors access cash laid the foundation for the business Crown would become.

FIRST GENERATION - 1936

SECOND GENERATION - 1950s

From Furnishings to Pawnbroking

As Crown evolved, Herman carried the family business into its next chapter. During the 1940s and 1950s, Crown began making small loans against clothing and expanded into radios, televisions, jewelry and other valuables.

By the 1960s, Crown had obtained its pawnbroker license, and Herman helped transform the family business into the neighborhood pawnshop generations of Washington customers would come to know.

THIRD GENERATION - 1980s

A New Generation Behind the Counter

By the 1980s, Vicki represented Crown’s third generation. Growing up in the family business meant learning that pawnbroking was about more than evaluating merchandise—it was about knowing your customers, treating people fairly and earning their trust.

Vicki carried those values forward as Crown continued serving Washington from the same 14th Street neighborhood where the family business began.

FOURTH GENERATION - TODAY

Four Generations, Carrying Crown Forward

Today, Jessica and Michael represent the fourth generation of the family at Crown Pawnbrokers. Ninety years after Morris opened Crown Men’s Furnishing on 14th Street, the family continues to serve Washington from the same neighborhood.

Much has changed since 1936, but the principles behind Crown have remained remarkably consistent: personal service, fair dealing, discretion and expertise. For four generations, those values have shaped the way Crown does business—and the way we hope every customer feels when they walk through our door.

The Next Chapter Is Still Being Written.

SINCE 1936

Four generations later, Crown remains what it has always been: a neighborhood business built on relationships. Whether you're visiting us for a pawn loan, selling something of value, or simply looking for something special, you'll be treated with the same fairness, discretion and personal attention that have defined Crown for generations.
